A professional history within product development and compliance in the plastics and coatings industry. Involved with the development of extrusion coating and other melt recycling methods for a variety of post-industrial and post-consumer waste materials. This exposure in industry has provided the ideas for PhD research and the potential for up-cycling flexible film waste.

Title
Preparation and Recycling of Post-Consumer Food Packaging for Yarn and Fabric Formation
Abstract
Research will investigate the process of up-cycling flexible, dry food packaging to create a yarn and fabric ensuring the value of the plastic material properties are maintained. Preparation, cleaning and characterisation of the constituent materials from the post-consumer waste stream and the effects of these preparation methods on the melt process for fibre production will be explored.
