Personal profile

Amanda is an Associate Professor and Head of Division for Social Work, Youth Work and Community Development. She is a qualified social worker with experience as a Supervising Social Worker, Senior Practitioner, and Service Manager within children and families service areas, and is registered with the HCPC. She currently holds professional responsibility for the BA and MA Social Work programmes at DMU. Amanda is also the Practice Assessment Panel Chair and sits on a number of University Boards and Committees, including Chair of the Programme Management Board and co- Chair of the Social Work Stakeholder Board. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE).

Research interests/expertise

Research interests include cultural competency in social work, diversity issues in fostering, the lived experience of Black and Minority Ethnic Looked After Children, spirituality in social work, decolonising social work education and training, the use of Southern theory in social work education, social work development in Africa, and critical analysis in social work.
