Welcome to the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Â鶹ƵµÀ, a vibrant hive combining excellent teaching with outstanding research to help solve the technological challenges faced by industry, commerce and society as a whole.

With a team of over 90 academic staff working in the fields of Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Robotics and AI, Data Analytics and Science, Games Production and Programming, Maths and Ethical and social aspects of emerging technologies, the school is committed to producing graduates and solutions to meet the needs of society not just today but for the future. ​

With over 2,500 students, the school provides a unique environment for study, research and innovation. We offer a broad portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, as well as opportunities to undertake full-time and part-time doctoral studies.​  Our BCS accredited programmes ensure that we offer industry recognized content and wherever possible we include our research into our programmes to provide a cutting edge curriculum.  The school is made up of four different subject groups Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Systems and Games, Maths and Intelligent Systems, providing a rich, diverse community tailored to help students meet their full potential.

The school is particularly strong in internationally recognised research in areas such Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Ethical and social implication of ICT – ranked third among modern UK universities for research power in REF2014 and rated 151-200 in the 2021 Shanghai Index – the Academic Ranking of World Universities.  Furthermore, our outstanding Cyber Security work means that we are recognized by the National Cyber Security Centre as a Centre of Excellence for both Education and Research in Cyber Security, one of only six institutions in the UK to have achieved both awards.

The school has developed strong relationships with industry and has partnered up with organisations such as Airbus, BT, Deloitte, IBM and Rolls-Royce. Such close relationships enable us to drive our research and embed employability throughout our curriculum to provide the best opportunities possible for students in relation to mentorship, placements and employability after graduation, as well as allowing us to provide state-of-the-art real-world solutions in both our research and teaching.
