The Riverside Festival, an annual event held across Bede Park, Western Boulevard and Castle Gardens, returns for its 25th anniversary on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June!
This year, with DMU as a proud partner, the free festival is expanding to campus, with Mill Lane hosting a market full of local, hand-crafted gifts and decorated with a gallery of artwork from local talent.
Attended by thousands of guests from a range of ages and backgrounds, the festival will also host live bands and music, a fun fair, food stalls, arts and crafts, a beer tent and more.
On the river, you’ll spot colourful boats from across the region and have the chance to take part in demonstrations and boat trips. You can also have a splash in a kayak or take a fully accessible narrowboat trip.
Dragon boat racing will take over the river on Sunday 2, with all welcome to take part. No experience is required, just bring a boat load of enthusiasm and some friends (10 people required per boat). To get involved and start a team, contact rob@prostaid.co.uk.
Back on land, food lovers can enjoy quality street food from around the globe and sample craft ales, lager, cocktails and more.
The Vijay Patel big screen will host content from Leicester-based creative companies, historic archives and the original 1992 animated series of the Beatrix Potter collection.
There’s something for the whole family to enjoy across the weekend.
Sarah Thomson, Director of Engagement at DMU, said: “DMU is thrilled to be in partnership with the city council to bring to the communities of Leicester this fabulous event.
It has traditionally taken place close by and this year we are delighted to be able to bring visitors on to our campus to enjoy the festival.
The partnership between DMU and Riverside is something we hope to grow, and we look forward to supporting the festival this year.”
