Empowering people
Education has the power to transform lives. We will create an environment in which our students and staff can flourish, enabling them to discover and develop their potential, empowering them to succeed. Together we are better and stronger.
Delivering an engaging experience
Empowering our people means enabling them to influence and drive what affects them. This requires us to engage in new ways so that together we can connect, understand and challenge the status quo. In doing so, we can create positive environments for ourselves, our colleagues and our communities.
- The staff and student experience are connected and of dual importance. We believe that our personal experience affects those around us and we will enhance our employee proposition to create higher staff engagement. This in turn, will enable a positive student experience. We will empower leaders and colleagues to work together to deliver high quality outcomes that ultimately make a difference to student experience, and to feel valued and rewarded fairly for contributions that embed our values and deliver our ambitions.
- Through ‘DMU Engage’ we will create a space to interact fully with students to create a true feeling of belonging, which will empower students to drive change and shape the future. We will involve more students in new ways, giving them a platform to let their voices be heard, to shape their education and experience at DMU.
- We will support students and staff wellbeing, creating a place where our people feel physically and psychologically safe, where we are resilient and strong and able to live well, learn well and work well.
Championing diversity
We are proud of our rich history and we have always embraced inclusive practices, holding the fundamental belief that regardless of background, faith or other characteristics, we all deserve the opportunity to grow and contribute to creating a fairer society.
- We aim to create an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging at DMU.
- We will eliminate pay and awarding gaps. We will focus on access, participation and progression gaps as identified by the Office for Students Equality Risk Register and our own analysis of data.
Our Equality for All Strategy sets out two strategic priorities:
- Developing an inclusive culture: in which every single person can expect to feel safe and supported.
- Equity and Fairness for all: enabling everyone to succeed and meet their full potential, regardless of background and personal identity.
Campus Collectives
By bringing together our people, we can forge rich learning networks and open gateways of opportunity for our students. Our professional collaborations will discover possibilities to reimagine and co-create a new future through our themed exploration network. We will:
- Tap into our innate desire to make a difference, bringing together our teaching, research and professional community, students, partners and local communities in Leicester around a set of themes. This is our opportunity to create a hub where knowledge is freely exchanged where we research, explore, develop, share, teach and inform changes in practice, in our community and society. The network will embody the notion of a learning organisation.
- Provide learning opportunities for all, developing their capabilities and helping them to reach their potential.
- Generate a greater sense of belonging through our diverse groups working together to explore mutual interests and passions.
We will continue to empower staff and students through our implementation plan
